Overview
The park is at the base of Mount Meru, which is good for climbing. It has a range of habitats including forest – home to the black-and-white colobus monkey – and is excellent for birding.
Despite its smaller size you will find a variety of interesting landscape features within the park, including the Ngurdoto Crater, Mommela Lakes and Tululusia waterfalls.

Highlight
- Mount Meru: Tanzania’s second-highest peak (4,562 m) towers over the park, offering scenic trails, lush rainforest, and views of Kilimanjaro on clear days.
- It’s a haven for hikers and home to colobus monkeys and blue monkeys.
- Ngurdoto Crater: A 3-km-wide volcanic caldera, dubbed “Little Ngorongoro,” with swamps and grasslands hosting buffaloes, elephants, and warthogs.
